LEAD Model
LEAD stands for Long-term Enhanced ACO Design. This new healthcare model was built using the improvements made during the GPDC and REACH models. From specialized patient populations to smaller, independent practices, LEAD utilizes improved benchmarking to appeal to a broader mix of health care providers. Unlike the previous health model iterations, LEAD will test sustainable, long-term benchmarks and savings by increasing the performance period to 10 years.
Why Create LEAD?
- A majority of healthcare providers chose to not participate in an ACO or dropped out of ACOs due to financial and administrative obstacles.
- Answer: LEAD addresses these barriers and has created a newer system that provides more flexible cash flow payments.
- LEAD wants to increase provider participation.
- Answer: LEAD gives greater freedom and tools to aid practices in spending time with patients and fulfilling their needs. This is aimed at helping specialized patient populations receive the appropriate care they need.
LEAD advances the Innovation Center’s commitment to:
1) Build opportunities for independent health care providers and practices to be rewarded for delivering better care
2) Promote and empower patient choice in both coverage and sites of care
3) Make it easier for health care providers and patients to engage in preventive care that supports healthier living
LEAD will run from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2036
