Understanding Medicare’s Shared Savings Program

Medicare’s Shared Savings Program (MSSP) is a voluntary program that encourages high-quality care for Medicare beneficiaries. In order to join the program, you must be part of an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). If you are part of an ACO and are enrolled in the MSSP, you will be expected to:

Coordinate items and services for Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) beneficiaries.

Measure and improve patient care quality.

Publicly report healthcare performance results.

In return for performing these tasks, you will receive a portion of the money you saved Medicare. This means the better you treat your patients, the more money you can earn.
